Murphy's Flaw Member Biographies

jarrett leskoJarrett Lesko, mando, guitar, dobro/vocals: Dobro/guitar/mandolin, is a Los Angeles guy who started playing drums at 15 then progressed to guitar and bass and now plays just about everything with strings on it. Back in the Day, Jarrett was a drum and guitar tech for a Crosby,Stills and Nash tour, and later played for 15 years with the well-known local rock band Second Language. He also plays with the David Aldo Group and Simon Pure, a stellar local bluegrass band. As if that's not enough, he's also an accomplished songwriter whose work The Flaw regularly massacres.

EdieEdie Murphy, fiddle/vocals: Edie began playing the fiddle at the age of 12 even though her teachers mistakenly called it a violin. She studied classical music and music theory until 22, when the call of a television and movie career enticed her away. When her career brought her to Los Angeles, Edie's romance with music was rekindled by mandolin lessons at the Silverlake Music Conservatory. But you never forget your first love. A trip to The Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest and seeing the fiddlers playing BLUEGRASS was all that was needed to inspire her return to the fiddle. A few short years later, she would win second place at the very same contest in her first gig as a member of Murphy's Flaw!

George

George Biner, guitar/vocals: Born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine, George picked up his shovel and walked to the mine. As a youth after school, George regularly loaded sixteen tons of Number 9 coal, and the straw-boss was heard to exclaim, "well-a, bless my soul." Other accounts suggest George was born one morning when it was drizzle and rain. The birth certificate lists Fightin' and Trouble as his middle names. George was raised in a canebrake by an old mama lion. He is married with two children, but he still claims that no high-toned woman will make him walk the line.

John Bryan, banjo, guitar/vocals: John started playing music in the great Folk Scare of the 1960s. His uncle bought him an old five-string banjo and John learned to play it, primarily to annoy his classically trained violinist father. Annoying everybody else was just a bonus. John, a former journalist and computer geek, is now a freelance writer, aspiring web designer and voiceover artist who lives in Chatsworth and annoys people there, too.

paulPaul Dorn, bass/vocals: Born a poor sharecroppers chil' in Thatbanjo'smakin'myearsbleed, Alabama, Paul immediately moved to Pasadena, Calif., to attend nursery school. It was there he was exposed to what we now call bluegrass when his teacher played "Oh My Darlin Clementine" on the banjo with her feet. Paul spent some years exploring blues-rock and later received a call that brought him back to bluegrass music with the band Vin Fiz Flyer, with whom he has played with since 2002. Now playing with Murphy's Flaw, Paul has the opportunity to explore different interpretations of favorite traditional bluegrass tunes as well as some excellent examples of original songwriting and musicianship from the other members.
